Description: This white sand beach on St. George Sound is a good place to stretch your legs and view the barrier islands on the horizon. An historic plaque describes earlier days when this area was part of Camp Gordon Johnston, a WWII amphibious training center for the invasion of Normandy. The island opposite the beach is Dog Island, once notorious as a haven for pirates and a good site for shipwrecks.
